Liner Notes

It began in the winter of 1994,
when Thomas Ochterski opened Stimulance Coffeehouse.
An all-ages venue with a stage and a sound-system,
it is providing a creative and nurturing atmosphere
for artists of all genres, especially to the musicians and performers
who faithfully attend the Monday Night Open-Mic.
Musicians young and old, having few other performance outlets,
have honed their craft inside the Stimulance walls,
and over time, a following has developed.
A new group of songwriters that is coming of age
is now ready to be recognized,
presented by long-time Open-Mic hosts Roy Bakos and Drew Love.
They run a tight ship; the sign-up sheet goes up at 9 pm;
first come, first served.
Roy and Drew host with wit and sarcasm,
but never fail to recognize and reward
the crowd-pleasers and jaw-droppers
with that pinnacle of open-mic appreciation; A THIRD SONG.
Among the performers on this night’s list are the repeat offenders;
the local musicians who show up every Monday
to play because they love to:
Sean Kagalis, who has become Buffalo’s best import from Florida;
Erin Roberts, a singer/songwriter with a dynamic vocal delivery;
Vic Lazar, usually fronting the hardcore band grey-in-between,
is now also known for his unconventional approach to solo performance;
Tom Woodworth, who writes and plays songs that are
immediately ingrained in your memory;
hosts Roy and Drew take the stage
with their two-man country-rock assault;
Eric Endres, the area’s master of ‘sarcoustic’ satire and showmanship;
Mary Morgan, appearing with her band, rips it up,
either belting out the blues or crooning with sweetness;
finally, bag. rounds out the night with their intense blend of acoustic funk.
The Stimulance Open-Mic has provided a nurturing atmosphere,
and at the same time a proving ground,
for some of Western New York’s finest talent.
So watch for the names you hear on this album--
these are the performers that keep people coming back,
Monday after Monday, to the coolest coffeehouse in Buffalo,
and soon they’ll be appearing at venues all over the map.
Thanks for listening.
